Great Wall of China (China)
The Great Wall of China is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in China, built, rebuilt, and maintained between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties. It is the world's longest human-made structure, stretching over approximately 4,000 miles from Shanhai Pass to Lop Nur.

Ik bezocht de muur te Badaling. Leuke plek om de muur te bezoeken want daar slingert hij door de bergen. Als je een goede klimmer bent kan je gerust een eindje wandelen op de muur. Plots kom je dan aan een niet gerestaureerd stuk muur. Dat levert gegarandeerd leuke foto's op.

Een stuk van 9km op de muur gelopen. Van Jenghsaling naar Simatai. Midden in de zomer liters water gezweet, maar gelukkig wordt water verkocht door mensen op de muur. Het is een bijzonder indrukwekkend bouwwerk. En erop lopen was al uitputtend, laat staan het bouwen! Jammer alleen dat de lucht zo enorm vervuilt is en er altijd een soort van mist hangt, zorgt voor mooie, maar niet voor geweldige foto's.

I was there twice in the eighties and in the nineties. It is the kind of visit for people in good athletic conditions. You have to walk up on long stairs with giant steps untill you find yourself walking along the snaky (would say dragon like) top of the wall thinking on how much labour it was needed to built this land cutting barrier against enemy. When you recover your breath you stay and want to stay a litlle mor, you forget time and allway want to go to the top of next hill and when you notice it you find yourself very far away from the place where you entered (if you can find it yourself..unless you're saved by the tour guide).Under one of the large doors, near the place where buses stay waiting, I bough a few coins after bargaining with an old fellow seeming older than the coins he was selling as ancient currency in China, from the times of the wall... I felt the same as when visiting old castles in Europe that were built to show the strenght and as defensive positions against possible enemies but were never used as such and stayed there for centuries.

Indrukwekkend, dat wel. Het moet veel bloed en tranen gekost hebben.

wij de muur bezocht in de winter: ijzig koud wel prachtig hoe hij zich een weg baant door de bergen

Es un lugar increible, de los mil trescientos millones de chino aquel dia habian 1200 millones visitandola. Un doble espectaculo!!
